Dartmouth

The historic town of Dartmouth, etched into the wooded hillsides of the beautiful River Dart, is only a few minutes drive away. The town is particularly attractive with its overhanging buildings, yacht harbour and wide quayside vistas. The lovely lower reaches of the river are navigable by steamer as far as Totnes. The ancient village of Blackawton is just a short walk from the house, and boasts two excellent village pubs, one of which is amongst the very best gastropubs in the whole area. The village also has the special distinction of hosting the annual International Worm Charming Contest. Dartmouth Golf and Country Club is 5 minutes away by car, has an 18-hole golf course, indoor swimming pool and restaurant, and offers our guests at Woodside Cottage a 25% discount.

The coast is about 10 minutes away and the nearest beach is at the beautiful sheltered bay of Blackpool Sands. The coastal walks are superb and there is a special nature reserve at Slapton Ley. Nearby is Salcombe, equally well known for its sailing, wonderful beaches and lovely walks. The rugged splendour of Dartmoor is just over ½ an hour’s drive away. A day excursion into Cornwall including the Eden Project is an easy option.
