Access Statement - Woodside Cottage, Dartmouth

Hospitality

We aim to provide for the access needs of all our potential guests within the limitations imposed by the nature of our eighteenth century cottage and the surrounding terrain. This statement summarises our provision and any queries are most welcome.

Pre Arrival

The house is in a rural situation away from any bus routes.
The nearest train station is at Totnes, 10 miles away.
Arrival at the house is therefore recommended by car or taxi (see below for taxi details). Road directions are given on our website.
All our three guest rooms are on the first floor. Details and photographs of each room are given on our website.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

There is ample parking for three cars in the area outside the garage, which is about 50 metres below the house.
There is a steep gradient on the lane up to the entrance gates, but guests with limited mobility can easily be dropped off at the gates.
The path from the entrance gates to the porch is mostly level with five interspersed steps. There are infra red activated floodlights for access at night both at the parking area and over the path.
Assistance with luggage is offered if required.

Main Entrance and Reception

The main entrance is through the porch into a well lit carpeted hallway between the dining and the sitting rooms.
There is no specific reception area and reception is by prior appointment only.
Guests are escorted up to their rooms and the facilities are explained.
The stairs up to the first floor are straight and then helical. There are sturdy handrails all along the right hand side.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

The dining and sitting rooms are on the ground floor on either side of the entrance hall. Both have wooden floors and the sitting room has two rugs.
There is a conservatory with a tiled floor leading out of the sitting room.

Public Areas - WC

All guest bedrooms are en suite, but there is no public WC downstairs.

Dining Room and Guest Sitting Room

Breakfast is served in the Dining Room on the ground floor.
There is one large mahogany dining table, which cannot be moved. The underspace is 61 cm high.
There are specific positions for each of the dining chairs.
The guest sitting room has a two seater sofa and two armchairs. There is a library at the far end.

Laundry

There is a laundry room which can be used on request.

Shops and Pubs

The nearest shop is the village post office about half a mile up the lane. There are two pubs in the village which are detailed on our website.

Bedrooms

All three bedrooms are on the first floor, and all are ensuite.
One bedroom has twin beds. The other two are doubles.
All bedrooms have fitted short pile carpets and 13.5 tog duvets.
All bedrooms have remotely controlled TVs. One has a digital freeview set and the others are still analogue.

En Suite Bathroom and Shower-rooms

All rooms have pedestal basins with rounded edges, 80 cm high.
All rooms have WCs, 40cm high and at least 90cm elbow room.
Quadrant shower in Blue Room has 90 cm radius. Doors open 50 cm. Step height 20cm.
Shower tray in Primrose Room 100 cm wide. Doors open 65cm. Step height 20cm.
Other bedroom has a fully tiled en suite bathroom with a built in power shower.
Bath is 50 cm high, 165 cm long, with a shower screen with swinging glass door, 75 cm wide.
